We all have those days where we feel yucky, and nothing seems to be going right. You may be feeling under the weather and just can’t get out of your funk. Maybe you woke up on the wrong side of the bed? Here are 10 ways to cheer yourself up so you can feel better and find the inspiration to get on with your day.

1. Play your favourite music
Put on some music and get up and dance! Music is a great uplifter to get you out of your grumpy mood. You could put on your headphones and dance around the room like no one is watching, or play your stereo and shake out your bad mood.

2. Go for a walk. Go for a run.
Nothing beats the blues than being active. Exercise will make you feel happier! Why not go for a stroll or brisk walk? Better yet, go for a run! If you have a pet, they would appreciate the exercise too.

3. Watch a funny movie or show
Why not put on a funny movie or stream your favourite sitcom on Netflix? If you feel crummy, comedy is the best remedy, so I have heard.

4. Start a Journal
Writing what you feel down on paper always feels better. You get all the frustration out, and everything seems to make sense. If you can do this and make it a habit when you are down, you will change the grumps to good days.

5. Read a good book
I like to read and to get lost in a good book. It helps me when I am feeling irritable and forget my worries. Reading occupies your mind, so you feel restored.

6. Play board games or card
Taking your mind off your worries for a little while is not a bad thing. Here is a great idea if you are feeling under the weather, grab a sibling and play a board game! You will feel happier and more energized, so you can tackle anything you set out to do.

7. Take a bath
Take a bath or a long shower. There is something about the warm water and bubbles and calming scents that help you feel revitalized and at the same time more relaxed.

8. Hang out with friends
A friend is a good person to turn to when you aren’t quite feeling right. A friend can cheer you up and take your mind off all your problems. Friends are also great listeners. Surround yourself with people who lift you up..

9. Call your parent or sibling
If you feel stressed, it may be time to call your Mom. It is a good idea to talk to someone who really knows you inside and out. My Mom and twin sister are who I call when I need to cheer up. There is something about family in the worst of times. They are the best thing to lean on to cheer yourself up. It is probably wholesome, down-to-earth advice.

10. Be a helper. Be a volunteer
When you are feeling low and you want to feel better, volunteer! You could be helpful and shovel a neighbour’s driveway or offer to cut an elderly person’s lawn. Helping someone who really needs it will make them feel awesome and will also help with your mood.
